Chinese Silver Grass Red Cloud
A new, more compact, early-flowering cultivar of Chinese silver grass, bred in Holland, Miscanthus sinensis Red Cloud is a deciduous, clump-forming, warm-season, perennial grass, with an arching habit and glorious red plumes in late summer. The narrow leaves are a fresh green, with a slender white stripe along the midrib, giving an airy feel. In August and September, rich red, feathery plumes rise over the clump of leaves, slowly fading to silvery-buff and persisting into late autumn. Chinese silver grass Red Cloud is ideal for the smaller garden teamed with late-flowering perennials, and is also good in containers for a more formal look. Cut back the old leaves in late winter to allow the fresh foliage to shine.
